My Lovely Journey Episode 2 K-Drama Recap

Collateral Damage and Fatherly Tough Love

Episode 2 kicks off with Mr. Oh heading home and bumping into our resident hero editor, Lee Yeon-seok. It turns out the broadcast industry is brutal because Yeon-seok got fired just for exposing Director Song's terrible behavior. He is currently channeling his unemployment energy into writing a movie script on the side.

Mr. Oh is naturally intrigued by the script, but their meeting gets hijacked by a flashback to Yeo Reum's sudden departure. We finally see the missing puzzle pieces from her final moments at the station. Before fleeing, she had begged Mr. Oh to let her take the camera and requested Manager Hwang for styling, proving she still had a tiny spark of showmanship left in her.

While Mr. Oh was busy yelling his tough love outside the café, Yeon-seok was inside watching the whole dramatic scene unfold. He muses that the pair look exactly like a dysfunctional father and daughter, easily spotting the deep mutual heartbreak hiding beneath all that screaming.

The Roots of Trauma: A Cold Cold Town

We then get a tragic glimpse into Yeo Reum's origin story to understand why she is so traumatized. Years ago, she was a bright girl who promised her father she would take a boat to Seoul and make it big. Her dad, clearly a graduate of the strict parenting academy, told her never to bother coming back home until she became a massive success.

Of course, Seoul immediately hit her in the face with harsh reality. We see a young, teary-eyed Yeo Reum in a public phone booth, begging her dad to let her come home, only for him to coldly tell her to suck it up and stay put.

This flashback makes Mr. Oh's current harsh words sting even more, pushing her back to that exact same terrifying crossroads. Inside the envelope he gave her, the ticket was actually for Mokpo, but destiny steps in at the train station. A sweet random grandmother spots Yeo Reum's unique beaded bracelet and starts hyping up the city of Buyeo.

Viral Nightmares and Guardian Angels

The grandmother gives her a mini geography lesson, explaining that she can either transfer at Daejeon or take a very long, very direct bus ride. Yeo Reum chooses the long scenic route, finally settling into the groove of her very first solo adventure.

The universe immediately tests her resolve at Janghang bus station with a torrential downpour, forcing her to seek shelter in a convenience store. Meanwhile, back in the city, Mr. Oh is having a total meltdown after discovering that Yeo Reum completely ignored his instructions and did not board the bus to her hometown.

Yeo Reum's phone dies, so she begs the convenience store cashier to charge it for her. Instead of being helpful, the cashier recognizes her as the viral bee-attack girl, takes a stealthy photo, and uploads it online for internet clout. To make matters more embarrassing, our clumsy queen immediately knocks her instant noodles onto the floor.

When the cashier asks if she is that failed idol, Yeo Reum panics and flees the store, accidentally leaving her dead phone behind. She ducks into a nearby restaurant where a lovely elderly owner cooks her a comforting meal to soothe her bruised soul.

K-Drama Fate and the Ghost on the Trail

Back at the convenience store, a worried Yeon-seok calls Yeo Reum's phone. He fiercely threatens the sketchy cashier, bluffing that he has a GPS tracker active and will hunt him down if he steals it. In a beautiful twist of K-drama fate, it turns out the nice restaurant owner is actually Yeon-seok’s grandmother.

When the grandmother spots Yeo Reum’s prayer beads, she notes that the knots look exactly like the ones from Muryangsa Temple and tells her to visit. On her way out, the grandmother's handsome grandson manages to smoothly secure Yeo Reum's phone number, keeping the romance plotline alive.

Yeo Reum finally gets into character as a travel vlogger, capturing gorgeous photos and videos for her American client, Kate, along the beautiful Muryangsa trail. For the first time in five years, she feels completely liberated, confident, and genuinely happy.

The peace is short-lived when a woman who looks exactly like Kate suddenly appears on the trail, speaks perfect fluent Korean, and snaps at her to stop taking photos. Before Yeo Reum can process this bizarre encounter, the mysterious woman vanishes into thin air.

As the trip wraps up, Mr. Oh is waiting at the finish line to scold her for disappearing. Amidst the shouting, he delivers some actual golden wisdom, telling her that when one door slams shut, she just needs to find an open window. As long as she refuses to throw in the towel, she will always find her true purpose.

An emotionally resonant second episode that masterfully builds out Kang Yeo Reum’s back story. By pairing her painful past family trauma with the organic warmth of a solo trip to Buyeo, the narrative effortlessly shifts gears from pure satire to a touching story of healing. The beautiful scenery, combined with early hints of romance and a bizarre mystery trail encounter, keeps the momentum moving beautifully.

Lyra

I’m a firm believer that any problem can be solved with a dramatic slow-motion walk, a well-timed OST, or a steaming bowl of ramyun. My life is essentially a collection of 16-episode arcs, and my "To Watch" list is growing faster than I can actually binge.
